Joe Taylor grew up in Rochester, New York, where he began his radio career at a radio station that hired beginners. He moved on to small-market stations in New England and eventually to Pittsburgh and KDKA, the nation’s first commercially licensed radio station. During his on-air career he did just about everything from being a disc jockey to a newsman to a talk show host. Along the way he wrote and produced several radio documentaries, some of which won regional and national awards.
Taylor moved into programming management, first in Detroit, then in Denver and Philadelphia. His next career move saw him becoming a radio station general manager in small-and medium-sized cities in Pennsylvania and Ohio.
Joe spent the final decades of his sixty-plus years in radio as a management consultant to small-market radio stations from Ohio and West Virginia, throughout Pennsylvania, and into the southern tier of New York State.
Joe Taylor resides in DuBois, Pennsylvania. Writing has become his retirement occupation. He authored and published his first book, I’m Just Lucky to Own My Own Car in January, 2021. A Pepper and Egg Sandwich on American Bread, about growing up Italian-America in the mid 50s-early 60s, was released in the fall of 2022. Both books are available at Amazon Books. Excerpts from his books and new pieces can be found on Facebook at Joe Taylor, Writer.
