Author - Marie Sontag
Marie Sontag loves to bring history to life through historical fiction. She writes adventurous stories about events in history that place fictional teen characters alongside historical ones as they grapple with situations that impact history and change the main characters’ lives.
With a BA in Social Science, a minor in music, and an MA and Ph.D. in education, Dr. Sontag says teaching middle school for over 15 years has kept her young. Her middle-grade series, Ancient Elements, takes place in Ancient Mesopotamia: The Bronze Dagger, The Alabaster Jar, and The Silver Coin. When on author visits, Dr. Sontag is always accompanied by her authenticated 3,500-year-old bronze dagger and alabaster jar, as well as her 2,300–old Phoenician coin.
Her YA historical fiction book, Rising Hope, places readers alongside Polish Boy Scouts and Girl Guides who helped the Polish Underground fight the Germans during WWII.
She’s currently completing a new series, The Whitcomb Discoveries. Book 1, California Trail Discovered, comes out in September 2020. While traveling on a wagon train to California in 1846, Daniel Whitcomb (a fictional teen) and Virginia Reed (a historical teen and member of the Donner Party) must make life-changing decisions when their wagon train’s leaders take an unexplored trail. The book also includes links to S.T.E.A.M. activities teachers or homeschoolers can include as part of their language arts or social studies curriculum.
Born in Milwaukee, WI, and having lived FOREVER in San Jose, CA, she currently makes her home in Texas where her favorite activities include attending concerts and musicals with her husband and playing with her incredibly talented grandchildren!
