Author - Miles S Richards
Miles S. Richards is a retired history educator currently residing in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. He received his Bachelor of Arts. from Edinboro State University. With a longstanding interest in western Pennsylvania, he was a charter member of the Elizabeth Township Historical Society. He later moved southward to pursue graduate studies in history at the University of South Carolina. Upon gaining a Ph.D. at the University of South Carolina in 1995, he began a teaching affiliation with Midlands Technical College in Columbia. During those years he wrote regularly for various historical publications, including a monograph, Remembering Columbia South Carolina: Capital City Chronicles [2007]. Upon returning to western Pennsylvania he resumed his interest in regional history, especially around the Youghiogheny and Monongahela Rivers which converge at McKeesport. For the past decade, he has written monthly historical features for various local newspapers. He has been teaching history courses for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Pittsburgh. He has spoken a number of local historical and civic groups. He is excited about writing his first book on his native region.
