The spirit of the Leatherstocking Tales has come to the Susquehanna Valley through the pen of Robert John Andrews in his novella, A Susquehanna Tale. Stories communicate best the layers of truth. Retired from serving for nearly 30 years as pastor of the Grove Presbyterian Church, Danville, Pennsylvania, after having first served for 11 years as pastor of the Penningtonville Presbyterian Church, Atglen, Pennsylvania, Andrews remains a popular local newspaper columnist, community and church leader, and public speaker on religious and historical topics. His first foray into publishing was his Civil War historical fiction, Nathaniel’s Call, which won the Presbyterian Writer’s Guild First Book Award, the first Print-On-Demand so awarded. Danville remains his home. From this river community he has learnt to cherish this region’s rich history and to love the tale of its river.
