Once again the author transports us back through the mists of time and puts us down in a fog-choked hollow or on top of a cloud-covered mountaintop where we can be entertained by hearing about a quaint episode that legend says once occurred here. However, we may then question it; it sounds so “far-fetched” that we can scarcely believe it’s true. Did it actually happen as the tale claims, or did the story just spring from the fertile imagination of a gifted storyteller? It’s an enigma that intrigued the author as well, and it’s that very mystery that prompted him to delve further into the tales to see if they contain any kernels of truth or if they have a basis in fact at all. His discoveries are not only surprising but also quite amazing.
