by Bob Ford
This collection of Ford’s holiday stories covers the gamut of Christmas traditions. As a pastor, he reflects on the spiritual meaning of Christmas and Epiphany. He provides humorous interpretations of the traditions of Christmas cookies, exchanging cards, and holiday shopping. There are references to Santa and his fears of flying over Pennsylvania with a sleigh pulled by a deer with massive antlers; since hunting is such a part of rural life there. Ford reminisces about Belsnickel—a Pennsylvania Dutch remnant from Germanic traditions, wherein Belsnickel arrives early in December to keep kids off the naughty list until Christmas. Naturally, there are beagles and hunting traditions. Laugh along with Ford’s wit, and share in his profound faith this Advent and Christmastide season.
